I am a stay at home mom to two little girls. I love to make things for them and our home. Seeing the joy of someone opening a gift that I have made is just wonderful.
I was never really taught to sew by anyone, I just learned. I did a class in school so I kind of knew the basics, but had no idea how to actually make something. Thats where the internet is so helpful. Youtube and Ehow are amazing and you can pretty much learn anything if you have the time, tools and patience. I started making burpcloths, nursing covers, bibs and baby blankets. They were pretty simple. Then I went on to cushion covers for the couch. A good friend of mine runs a pattern business Sweet Sew Patterns and I tried a few of her dress patterns for my girls. I can pretty much learn anything within my limits as long as im shown the basics and have instructions so that's why her patterns are so great, they have step by step instructions.
My eldest daughter is the inspiration for these dolls. I bought a doll for her and after looking at it I knew I could make one. I figured out the basic parts of the doll and knew I had to make a pattern. I kind of guessed it and I can tell you that some of my first dolls had giant heads, small bodies, crooked arms, short legs and wonky smiles. The patterns were cut out of old cereal boxes! I estimate that I made five or so dolls before I got it right. The dolls in my shop are actually a second generation. I think the are the best so far, and as I get more confident I may add more styles like ladybugs, princesses, christmas themes and mermaids. I just have to figure out some more patterns, which will take alot of time and weird looking dolls im sure. I love fabrics and made the dolls originally with white flannel faces and arms. It just did not look right. I found some wool suiting at a nearby store and although its a tad pricey, it gives the dolls a much better look. The feedback has been positive so I am moving along making some more girlies and hope to have a fully stocked shop soon. I just need to sell some! So please help me spread the word.
I am thinking of doing a giveaway, any suggestions?
Enjoy.
